A Splendid Gem 1925-D Buffalo Nickel

There is something special about Buffalo nickels.

In 1942, after conducting the sale of the Michael F. Higgy Collection, Abe Kosoff remarked that Buffalo nickels received more bids than any other series. Now, here we are in 2010, nearly 70 years later, and although they may not be number 1 in popularity, Buffalo nickels are certainly high on the list. Our impending Americana Sale offers choice items for your contemplation.

Thank you for your interest!

Our catalog description:

Splendid Gem 1925-D Buffalo Nickel
None Graded Finer by PCGS

2592 1925-D MS-66 (PCGS Secure). An exceptionally lovely example of this date, satiny and lustrous with pale gold, orange, and sky blue iridescence endorsing both sides. Nicely struck for the date, not completely so, but close enough to warrant mention; this date is often as flat as the proverbial pancake at the bison’s head and shoulder area. A pleasing coin that holds up well to careful scrutiny, a beautiful piece that readily deserves the assigned grade. Struck from a slightly rotated reverse die, with the bison’s head pointing to 8:00 rather than 9:00 as is standard in the series. If high-quality Buffalo nickels are within the realm of your numismatic discipline, we suggest you take a good look at the present beauty!
